PM Albanese in Darwin: Celebrating Australian Innovation and Sovereign Manufacturing

When Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was in Darwin recently, our CTO, Steven Camilleri, and PhD Material Scientist Tien Tran, had the privilege to demonstrate the high-speed capabilities of LightSPEE3D to the Prime Minister, as well as Chief Minister Natasha Fyles, and Luke Gosling MP for Labor.

This visit followed the announcement of a million-dollar Australian Ukraine Military Assistance Package by the Prime Minister in Washington in October. It highlighted how innovative Australian technologies like ours contribute to the country’s economy through global export, as well as the future development of a sovereign advanced manufacturing capability.

We were also honored to present a copper buffalo head to the Prime Minister during his visit. This symbol of resilience and strength represents the Australian Army’s 1CSSB unit. It is one of the first-ever metal parts successfully printed in the field, created by the Australian Army using SPEE3D’s revolutionary cold-spray process during the Mount Bundey trial. This artifact celebrates a shared vision for a future shaped by ground-breaking technology and collaboration.

The Prime Minister and the Chief Minister offered some comments about our company:

“…With SPEE3D, we see a great example of that Australian innovation, leading to Australian jobs, leading to Australian wealth. Making a difference for the people here in the territory, but also making a contribution to our nation”. – Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese.

“SPEE3D, Northern Territory Exporter of the Year and Steve Camilleri, a great success story. A student from Darwin high school who has gone on to develop technology that is world leading. That is ensuring that we have advanced manufacturing here in Australia. So not only building our sovereign capability but also providing us with the opportunities to export and to provide uniqueness, which is particularly vital across a number of industries, but particularly defence.” – Northern Territory Chief Minister, Natasha Fyles.

We greatly appreciate this recognition and aim to continue building and strengthening Australia’s manufacturing capability across numerous industries with our technology.
